The Woke Society as it exists today is a puzzle with a thousand pieces all with unique shapes. It is a difficult puzzle to put together. This is my attempt to do so.
It begins with understanding wokeness is a religion of very strong beliefs, composed of victims and victim oppressors bound together with a belief that America is evil. Evil with the tenet that it was created by those of historical privilege – the whites, particularly white males – and all others are oppressed as a result. The belief system is so strong that it cannot be challenged. Its rationale is flawed, its tentacles far-reaching, and many of the oppressors have become religious fanatics fueled by their guilt. Victimization, hate, envy, segregation, equity, and revenge makes up the religion’s character. Retribution can only be attained by reversing the privilege.
Simultaneously, from about the same period of history, the globalists viewed worldwide income inequality with distain. Fueled by a booming global economy, a vision of global governance composed of a ruling class of elites evolved – as only they have the smarts to refocus and lead the world in eradicating the inequality. The major obstacle to realizing the vision; strong nation-states which are incompatible with their global governance system. The strongest of the pack has to be defused – the United States.
The religion became a movement which captured Wall Street who joined forces with the globalist elites and together they forged the concept of “stakeholder capitalism.” A concept where corporate objectives shift from purely “shareholder value (profit)” to becoming stewards of the environment, social justice, and progressive governance (ESG). Big Business clasping hands with Big Government to promote the (ESG) ideology of the Woke in America.
Having captured a substantial piece of the nation-state resistance (it’s government), the global elites had to address one additional resistance – its citizenry. The historic means to do so was fear. Climate change fit the bill with vigor. “Save the Planet from self-destructing weather” is the rallying cry – a new energy system. Then the movement got an unexpected boost – the COVID-19 pandemic. Fear oozed and the citizenry around the world capitulated to the lockdown tyranny and the unproven mandates, further emboldening the “Climate Change Crisis.” It proved citizenry can be had. War on fossil fuels, loss of energy independence, massive inflation resulted; but the fear remains, impervious to logic.
Do the Woke understand the globalists? Do the globalists understand the Woke? Probably not. But the merging of American corporations and current administration have become the go between. A loose federation of globalists and the woke with the same goal – to retool the United States to a soft tyranny. A successful outfall would be the new Woke Society. That is where we are headed. I only hope we don’t get there.
Happy Learning, Harley P.S. Here is some of the evidence today of a trending Woke Society
Executive Order 13985 “Advancing Racial Equity …”; Found on Google – 8 pages long; Could be titled, “Indoctrination of the Federal Government to Wokeness”
ESG Funds and Rules: Very prominent in any brokerage house and most corporate entities
Climate Change Fear:
1/21/21: Keystone pipeline cancelled -- eliminated easy delivery of 900,000 barrels a day of Canadian oil (Executive Order 13990 Sec. 6)
1/21/21: Revoking Executive Order 13783 of 3/28/17 – Seeking Energy Independence and Economic Growth (Executive Order 13990 Sec. 7(a).
1/27/21: Halted granting of any new oil or gas leases on federal land – 25% of U.S. oil & gas production (Executive Order 14008 Sec. 208))
6/1/21: Stoppage of all drilling in ANWR region of Alaska – at peak production 1.4 million barrels a day. (Secretarial Order 3401 under Executive Order 13990)
[Note: U.S. average daily consumption – 20.6 million barrels per day]
3/21/22: SEC proposed anti-oil rule to deny capital for oil drilling. John Kerry’s “Net-Zero Banking Alliance” to limit loans for oil drilling – both targeted to starve the oil and gas industry of capital
WOKE OVERVIEW ESSAY: Our 246-year-old social system is no longer satisfactory to a substantial portion of our country’s population. Our philosophical principles of inalienable rights, created and bestowed by our creator; equality of human beings before the law and relative to their rights, and the premise that government exists only to protect the natural rights and equality before the law per the Declaration of Independence are no longer valid. The need to avoid tyranny via our Constitution and its system of checks and balances needs to be discarded. Our culture that has served us for the past two and one-half centuries needs to be completely overhauled. Personal responsibility, meritocracy, free enterprise, individualism, assimilation of citizens, freedom of speech and religion, with the family and church serving as a bedrock for our beliefs all must be transformed or eliminated so a new society can emerge. Maintaining separations between our institutions of corporate entities, churches, and government is no longer desirable and capitalism as our economic system needs to be challenged.
The America of the past has to be left behind. Its philosophy was corrupt, exploitive and driven by white supremacy. Its culture was racist and cruel. Its history is a litany of abuses punctuated by sporadic wars directed at overthrowing its philosophy and culture which still needs to occur, as little has changed. Natural rights do not exist. The only rights that exist are those granted by the government. Further equality before the law and equality of individual rights is insufficient in today’s world. The Woke seeks equality of outcome, e.g., income, wealth, respect, treatment, etc. Further, they see the system of checks and balances as barriers to progress and view the current government system as a construct instituted by the top of the hierarchy to reinforce its own control. In their view this must be changed.
The Woke are challenging many of the existing cultural aspects including (1). Failures are no longer seen as individual but systemic, so personal responsibility is a secondary concern, (2). Meritocracy is viewed as discriminatory given the history and state of being of our society, (3). Capitalism has its roots in slavery and support of capitalism enhances white supremacy, (4). Each of our identity defined groups desires its own culture and seeks their own segregated institutions and communities, (5). Free speech must be accompanied with hate speech regulations which protects each societal grouping, (6) Freedom of Religion must be replaced with secular universalism.
The Woke believe they have a Supreme Trait – the characteristic that when shared by all the people would create the perfect world. This belief is so strong that those who disagree deserve to be hated. The Woke Supremacists don’t see themselves as Americans, but as citizens of the world. As such they feel they are not bound to any of America’s laws, oaths, or Constitution. You cannot pick and choose from the tenets of the woke movement. You must accept it all or none. Movements of this sort in the past have strived for no personal possessions, no countries (borders) and no religion.
WOKE PHILOSOPHYESSAY: The existing philosophy and resultant system were created to bestow privilege and dominance to white heterosexual males and to oppress people of color, homosexuality, bisexuality, transsexuality, and those of the female gender. “Racism is ordinary, an everyday experience and most people of color in this country. The system of white-over-color ascendancy serves important purposes, both psychic and material for dominant groups. Because racism advances the interests of both white elites (materially) and working-class whites (physically), large segments of society have little incentive to eradicate it. Race and races are products of social thought and relations. Races are categories that society invents, manipulates, or retires when convenient.” Critical Race Theory by Richard Delgado and Jean Stefanic (2017)
Therefore, the Woke contend that traditional philosophy must be totally changed. Such changes must include equality of all peoples in every aspect of life; equality of outcome – economic, social, dignity, and respect of all peoples, as dictated by government, with the underpinning morality determined by judges. In so doing, government will guarantee every man, woman and child in our country basic economic rights and equal outcomes (equity), health care rights and outcomes, educational rights and outcomes, job rights and outcomes, housing rights and outcomes, and retirement rights and outcomes regardless of sex, race, sexual orientation, or disabilities.
Further racism is embedded in our culture, and we cannot escape it. White people are inherently racist. Only white people can be racist. Only people of color can effectively talk about racism, white people just need to listen. Not seeing people in terms of their race (being color blind as Martin Luther King, Jr. advocated) is racist and is an attempt to ignore pervasive racism that dominates society and perpetuates white privilege. All white people benefit from racism regardless of their intentions. Racism is pervasive, systemic, and deeply ingrained in our society. Therefore, minorities of color should not try to fit into a flawed social system, but instead should transform it. The government is the only allowable mechanism for dispensing privileges and achieving equality of outcome.
Rights of individuals should not occur, alternatively rights should only be granted to groups of people. The most prevalent aspects of the grouping are skin color and race – people of color include blacks and browns (Latino, Asian, Native American, etc.) Whites are another group. Two additional groups are the LGBT community and women. If you are a person of color and a member of one of the latter two groups, you are a victim of intersectionality. If you are a double victim of intersectionality according to Theory, you have more experience and insight into discrimination and oppression than if you are a single victim. A single victim has more insight into discrimination and oppression than a white heterosexual male who is even lower on the understanding discrimination and oppression pyramid. If you are also a Christian and a conservative, you are at the absolute bottom of the pyramid. Everything in society should be viewed through the lens of your group and its potential oppression, bigotry, injustice and grievance. The higher the position in the intersectionality hierarchy the more your voice and perspective is warranted.
Commentary: This is an integral part of the Biden Administration’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion platform. In fact, through Executive Order 13985 the Biden administration is pushing Critical Race Theory and gender identity exploration ideologies into schools. This piece of legislation works to further equity advancement so that all students achieve the same outcome no matter how hard they do or don’t work.
Commentary: Indoctrination training in this woke philosophy/ideology is occurring broadly in the U.S. Government, U.S. Military, Public Schools, U.S. Colleges and Universities, and in many large U.S. based corporations (particularly Big Tech).
WOKE JUSTICE ESSAY: A hallmark of the United States Justice System is the rule of law which includes due process and freedom and freedom of speech. The basis for the system is Judeo-Christian beliefs most importantly the Golden Rule – do unto others as you would have them do to you. Tolerance for rights of others even if we may not like how they use those rights and robust support for the social institutions who are virtuous of those rights which provides a basis for morality, in particular family and church, are direct outcomes. A Woke Society embraces none of these attributes of justice.
Why the rejection of the existing justice system by the Woke? The American system was created by white, male, straight Americans with the intent to dominate over all other Americans which they successfully did – a story of the strong crushing the weak, both domestically and internationally. The belief that America is a nation of corruption and lies – promising liberty but guaranteeing tyranny. The Declaration of Independence was a lie and the Constitution enshrined slavery and brutality. America’s role throughout the world has resulted in poverty, death, inequality, and injustice most specifically within its own borders. America was founded in evil, is irredeemably divided and can never escape her past without dismantling her founding principles. Therefore, the only solution is complete transformation.
The Woke Society replaces individual rights with “the common good” as determined by the federal government; the vision of rights is transformed to the perception of victimhood recognized by entitlements; there is a complete focus on the oppressed and repressed to the exclusion of all else; where the pursuit of truth is eroded by a movement to protect people from experiencing hurt feelings. A culture wherein the government guarantees freedom from want and fear, duties are created by mob advocacy, policy is dictated by a cultural elite, and nothing can be challenged or debated.
Its institutions assess collective blame to dominant groups – white people are racist, men are sexist, and straight people are homophobic. A system that promotes justice and equity by “righting” the oppression of indigenous people, communities of color, the poor, low-income workers, the elderly, the unhoused, people with disabilities, communities of youth as defined and judged by an appointed bureaucracy of “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” Laws are treated as nothing but useful tools – the institution just ignores the existing laws if they choose, whether it be those of immigration, rioting, policing, or prosecting and proceed with what they deem to be right. The system has no standards or processes for determining what judicial action should be taken. Censorship by the elite is unchallenged. Justice is applied based on identity.
At its core the system rejects family, church, and individuality in favor of the collective. Its institutions encourage tribalism, group identity, and is authoritarian in its attempts to dictate what people believe.
Commentary: Signs of the Woke Social Justice system are extremely prevalent in our society today. The rule of law is ignored: at the southern border; with riots, policing, and prosecution; with censorship; and in cancelling conservative voices. The trend line is one of advancing more Social Justice tenets thus helping to establish the Woke Society.
WOKE SOCIETY’S INSTITUTIONS – CORPORATE & GOVERNMENT ESSAY: Many citizens of our country view wokeness as a passing fad pushed by a group of radicals, so there is no danger to the long-term structure of our governing systems or to our society. Such is not the case. Two factors need to be recognized – one internal to our society and one external.
The external factor has been emerging since the end of the Cold War. The desire for Global Governance fueled by the evolution of a global economy and significant global inequality both in income and human rights. This is reinforced by fears of not taking adequate care of the planet’s environment. The United Nations model has failed in this regard, but the European Union (EU) is held up as a potential model. As the EU is fundamentally run by a group of unelected elites this is part of the globalists thinking. To advance this direction, the desire for and power of nation-states has to be lessened. The most powerful nation-state with the greatest resistance is the United States.
The internal factor is a shift in many U.S. corporations from a sole objective of “shareholder value” (profit) to “stakeholder capitalism.” Stakeholder capitalism expands a corporation’s objective from solely profit to societal interests at large. These interests have been categorized and standardized by Wall Street in three areas: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). Most if not all the measurements are in line with woke beliefs and principles. Wall Street has taken this to a state where they have mutual funds for highly rated ESG companies. Thus, the power and influence of large U.S. corporations who operate on an international basis is being funneled to support wokeness. This is happening in Silicon Valley firms, Delta Airlines, Coca-Cola, Disney, Pizza Hut, the National Basketball Association as a few examples.
Both lines of thinking and the associated power base is seemingly geared to a government that is controlled by a small group of elites – a soft tyranny if you will. The merging of big business and government elites into a ruling power is what I term as a woke government.
THE POTENTIAL TRANSITION TO A SOFT TYRANNY ESSAY: Climate change is integral to both factors – “stakeholder capitalism” and global governance -- influencing a long-term structural change to our government systems. Climate change is a key ESG criteria in stakeholder capitalism for “winning” companies to become part of the ruling elite. For the globalists, climate change is essential to create sufficient fear for nation-states citizenry to consider a global governance system in order to take care of the planet’s environment.
Climate change for the woke is a settled science derived from the consensus of 192 United Nations scientists who reported it as a significant threat to the planet. If the world does not reduce carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels the average temperature of the planet will rise 1.5 degrees Centigrade which will result in significantly more hurricanes, wildfires, floods, droughts, and sea level rise – the planet will be devastated.
Other eminent scientists think otherwise – the climate is extremely complicated; we have great difficulty in determining whether in fact there is any warming; and if so, is the source natural fluctuations or increased carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere; and if so, what is the contribution of increase carbon dioxide from fossil fuel emissions? The United Nation’s scientists, part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), have done extensive modeling to predict such disasters, but the relevant factors are so difficult to measure that they have to adjust their models to get an effective result. Their models do not predict and answer; they predict multiple scenarios each of which are different. The climate change media reports the worst case of these scenarios because that is what sells. The usual scientific check on such models is to determine if they would have predicted current conditions using historical data. They have been unable to do so to date. Net, the models lack certainty. So, do we have a climate change problem and a solution? The answers: unsettled and yes, but not to a definitive problem. Further, if the targets set in the Paris Climate Agreement are attained, it is highly unlikely to slow any potential growth of human influences on the climate, let alone reduce them. Additionally, it is highly unlikely that China and India (large emitters of fossil fuel emissions) will meet their targets, so it is most probably the overall targets of the Paris Climate Agreement will never be attained.
Yet, the U.S. has a massive program underway to totally eliminate fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy, specifically via wind, solar, and hydro power. Hydroelectricity is topped out at about 7% of the country’s total energy needs. If the remaining 93% (of which only 3% exists today) is achieved by solar and wind with battery storage centers built to meet the energy needs when the wind isn’t blowing or the sun isn’t shining, 25% to 50% of all the land in the U.S. will be needed to house the equipment. Additionally, all such equipment has a relatively short life – 10 to 20 years—and when they “die” they have to be landfilled which requires additional land.
In our quest for a renewable energy society, we have already given up our energy independence, created massive inflation, and supported dictatorships throughout the world. Next, we will strain our most vulnerable infrastructure – the electrical grid which will likely result in rolling blackouts.
Surprisingly, there are other avenues to pursue to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the world other than utilization of wind and solar power. The first is to eliminate the burning of wood for heat and cooking in Asia and Africa. This would have a huge impact on worldwide pollution as well as CO2 emissions. Yet, little effort is being expended to do so. Also, two technical solutions exist to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere – solar radiative and removal via massive vacuum like equipment.
So, why the continual push for the reduction of CO2 emissions? One school of thought is that without the widespread fear of climate change it would be far more difficult to shift economic and social power away from “We the People” into the hands of the elites. The likelihood of attaining this desire was emboldened by the world’s reaction to the pandemic with fairly universal compliance to lockdowns and mandates – compliance based on fear.
Commentary: Climate change poses an existential threat to our lives, to our economy, and the threat is here. It’s not going to get any better. President Joe Biden, September 7, 2021. President Biden is a staunch supporter of the Great Reset and fully committed to enacting its agenda, both the United States and around the world. Glenn Beck in The Great Reset (2022). Does this suggest we are marching down a path to a Woke Society?
CHINA, A THREAT TO A WOKE SOCIETY? ESSAY: The Chinese Communist Party is extremely cunning and bases most of their decisions on the long-term strategic plan with an endpoint of being the only world superpower by 2049. They hope to achieve world dominance via a “bloodless war” utilizing unrestricted warfare – bioweapons, cyberattacks (e.g., Electro-magnetic pulse on the grid), corruption of U.S. elites (via their “elite capture program), etc. With the objective of being the only superpower by 2049 and the tactics of a “bloodless war” how will the potential transition of America into a “Woke Society” fit or not fit into their plans? Will they attempt to infiltrate corporate America to become one of the elite rulers, fuel the woke movement via their many university and corporate contacts, pause their aggressive actions in Asia and Africa to determine how the globalist Great Reset shakes out, maintain their supremacy plans undeterred, or all of the above?
They are reportedly a very racist political entity and seemingly want to remain a nation-state, albeit they are a prominent member of the World Economic Forum. Wokeness will not play well in that culture. With certainty they are closely observing our behaviors. But as Douglas Murray stated “our focus on wokeness has so consumed American interests, that we are blinded to China’s empire building goals, advances, and actions” in his book War on the West (2022). SUMMATION: The Woke religion became a movement which captured Wall Street who joined forces with the globalists to forge the concept of stakeholder capitalism. This moved American corporations to join the movement. The Woke movement has also been embraced by the Biden administration who has joined forces with the globalist to incite the citizenry to become fearful of disastrous weather throughout the planet because of global warming. Further embolden by the citizenry’s easy capitulation to the pandemic lockdowns and mandates, the Woke, Big Business, Big Government, and the Globalists are all aligned in moving toward changing America to a woke society ruled by a soft tyranny of elites.
